JOSEPH LEIGHTON TRIO
Joseph Leighton is a young jazz guitarist from Derry but currently studying at Trinity College of Music in London. He has studied under David Lyttle, Mike Walker, Vijay Iyer and Jesse Van Ruller, and was one of the youngest musicians to be awarded a place on the Jazz Course at the Banff Centre, Canada. He was also selected as one of our ‘Emerging Artists’ 2016-17. The trio features Jack Kelly on bass and James Anderson on drums.
Vocalist and composer Sue Rynhart received huge acclaim after the release of her debut album Crossings in 2014. The 2017 follow-up Signals has only bolstered her reputation as one of Ireland’s most interesting contemporary artists.
Her music and unique delivery draws on classical and jazz traditions with a pop sensibility, all the time letting her precise, delicate voice shine through.
Sue will be joined on the night by Dan Bodwell (bass) and Francesco Turrisi (keyboard and percussion)
THE PAUL DUNLEA GROUP
Formed in 2011 by Cork trombonist/composer Paul Dunlea as a creative outlet for his own compositions, the Paul Dunlea Group utilizes some of Ireland’s finest improvising musicians to produce melodic and groove driven music fusing influences of jazz harmony, pop, funk, and R&B.
The group released their debut album ‘bi-polAr’ in 2013 to critical acclaim, reaching #1 on the iTunes Jazz Chart. The group is due to release it’s second album in early 2018.
Line-up includes Paul Dunlea (trombone), Ben Castle (tenor sax, flute), Leopoldo Osio (piano), Barry Donohue (bass), and Alyn Cosker (drums).
The Showcase coincides with a visit by Jazz Promotion Network (JPN) jazzpromotionnetwork.org.uk
