Thunderblender is a Brussels based jazz/improv trio led by Irish saxophonist Sam Comerford. It combines adventurous free improvisation, beautiful moments and heavy grooves, tied together in long-form compositions inspired by artists like Tim Berne and Henry Threadgill.
The band features three of the most exciting young musicians on the European scene, each receiving the ‘Toots Thielemans Award’ in recent years. 2017 saw the band release their Debut EP ‘Last Minute Panic’, with awards and positive reviews in tail.
ELLIOT GALVIN TRIO
Elliot Galvin: piano/synthesizer/toys, Tom McCredie: double bass/guitar, Corrie Dick: drums/ percussion
Elliot Galvin is one of the rising stars of UK jazz. A superbly gifted composer and pianist, whose imagination and magpie like ability to blend a world of influences into his own unique musical vision has seen him compared to Django Bates – although in truth he sounds like no one except himself. From de-constructing standards to creating his own mirco-tonal creations, Galvin’s music is both playful and deadly serious drawing on a wide range of influences from Keith Jarrett to Stravinsky, Ligetti, Deerhof and the Beatles as well as the films of David Lynch, the Dada movement, and the literature of James Joyce.
Live he is utterly captivating, bringing a powerful sense of purpose to everything that he plays, and while his music is playful, he never allows the humour to side track from the brilliance of his band or the seriousness of his intent.
“Audaciously accomplished” The Guardian
“Perhaps one of the strongest debuts that I’ve heard from a UK artist in a long while… extremely bold and progressive” Jez Nelson (BBC Radio 3)
